tutorial search

Could anyone here direct me in the direction of a semi-easy to follow tutorial on how I can get my components to line up all the way to the top of the page next to the header....

EDIT: never mind she changed her layout so the example is invalid. Thanks to those who responded...I am pretty sure you answered my questions but I am unfortunately too stupid to figure it out. O well!
