Entry Letter Spacing

This is probably a really stupid question but bear with me and any help is appreciated! Anyway, when I set the entry letter spacing to 1px in my theme layer, this does work to make the entry text spaced, but when I open my journal in Internet Explorer, there are no line breaks. Paragraphs get smushed together; this doesn't happen in Firefox, only IE, but now that I know that it happens, it bugs me.

Is there any way to have that work without disabling line breaks when viewed in IE? Thanks!
