How to make my journal to show bold, underlined, or italic fonts

- This is probably really simple but I can't seem to make my journal to show different font styles...like for instance if I use a different font size it just won't show up in my journal when I post the entry. I know what code to use though because I've had other layouts where the different fonts show up but somehow when I post it over on component..it just doesn't show up.

- Secondly is there a way I can make my font bigger in the side links, for instance like how she has - > http://lovelymannequin.livejournal.com/

'the girl with a broken smile' 'navigation' 'calendar' 'loves it'

i want the font to be bigger than it is right now in my journal.
