a simple thank you note

I thought about taking the following minutes to write this, because I just feel the need to let it out. No. It's not a request for help, since I pretty much got my journal to look comfy enough for me already.

It's a thank you note for you liabunny, masterslacker and corneliousjd.

Because of you guys I did everything I needed and wanted in my journal without trying to figure out a lot of the code myself. Some of us are just to busy with school or something else and I don't really had the time to read how exactly things work...so it's heaven to come here and realize you already have a tutorial for it.

liabunny and corneliousjd you' guys are very dedicated and more importantly nice, it's very clear your desire to help others and you do it in such a friendly way...it's delightful. You've done an incredible job so far.

masterslacker your tutorials are simply THE best out there, easy to use, I was able to understand everything...your pointers, your comments, the use of colors, they are really amazing. More importantly, you fixed the issue I had with the mini-calendar being all screwed up thanks to the "special announcement" former way. Keep it up.

You deserve a standing ovation. I love this community.

To each and every single one of the members in here, I wish you all a very happy christmas.

Thank you,
Antonio.

Odd question?

Is there anyway that I can put the graphic in my most recent post up next to this text in the header bar above it? My goal is to have this graphic remain stationary at the top of my journal without having to place a future-dated entry there.

My apologies if this has been answered already.

Thank you in advance for any assistance given.

Comment v. link/edit/etc text

I just used this fantastic tutorial to add edit, link, memory, and email links to my entries... however I noticed one this that really irks me, and that the text doesn't seem to line up! The comment links seem to sit higher than the other links in the section! Anyone know how to make this behave?!

Borderless Userpics

I've found that if you want all userpics to have no border, even the hard coded ones, you can put the following in your stylesheet:

img { border-width: 0px }

The code to do this without anything else would just be:

function Page::print_custom_head() {
"""
<style>
img { border-width: 0px; }
</style>
""";
}

Circles on MiniCalendar...

I don't usually look at the Calendar page, but I've recently noticed that using the code to make circles around the dates on the minicalendar, it kinda screwed up the positioning of the number of entries, dates, and circles on the Calendar page... Did anyone else have this problem? Or is there just something messed up in my code?

Nevermind. I figured it out. The
function YearWeek::print () {
part of the code that makes the calendar page show up right was left out :p

Making a little progress :)

Well, for the time being at least, I've put a div tag in the tutorials component so you can scroll through it. I don't know if there are any browsers that this won't work with, so let me know if you are having problems.

I'm going to work on categorizing them a bit, and I'm trying to find a code I've seen before to make an "alt" tag for a link, so that if you hold the mouse over the link you get a little box that pops up and gives you a description. I really liked it when I saw it, and that way I can still put descriptions there, but it won't look nearly as messy. Anyone know how to do this so I can stop searching? :)

Also, as diziara suggested, I've got the log in component to show up if you aren't logged in, and the update component to show up if you are logged in.

One other thing... masterslacker, I noticed when you did the code to add the link/memory/edit/email buttons to the entries, it put a larger space between the entries... It did it on my journal too, but it wasn't nearly as noticable there at least. Could you maybe see if you can figure out how to take that spacing out? Either that or add an equal amount of spacing between the entries and the components... I just think it looks weird to have the spacing different there... Thanks :)

Thanks to everyone for your input on how to make things look better here :)

Updates to the "Customising your entries" tutorial.

Over the past few days I've had a few people point out problems with the resulting look that the entries have. I've fixed the tutorial slightly to accomodate these changes. I'm posting this here because I believe a few people are experiencing this problem, so instead of leaving it buried in a thread somewhere, I wanted to post it on the main page as well.

If you notice that the comment links and the "link" link are not lined up horizontally, the fix is HERE.

If you are seeing lots of extra space between each entry, the fix is HERE.

I've fixed it so that it can be used in a Community. There's nowhere that I can point out to you what I fixed, because it was a lot of little tidbits here and there. Most of you probably won't be interested in this, but at least you know it's possible.

If you notice any other problems, please ask me about it and I'll look into it.

Oh and just in case you're not sure what I'm talking about, the full (fixed) tutorial describing how to customise the look of your entries is HERE.

Minor revisions to "Full Update Component"

I wanted to be able to post right from my journal without logging in, so I made a few minor changes to the Full Update Component to accomodate that. Mind the red sections, they're the real changes. Also, careful copying and pasting this, as I think I may not have pasted all the brackets and am too lazy to check. Unlike some people, I don't write good tutorials. Anyone who wants to can touch this up.

Scrolling Entries - Not a Scrolling Entry Page

Someone forget their LJ cut and post two hundred lines of whiny tripe that you'd rather skip? Unfriend them! Or, with a small mod based off of masterslacker's customizing of the entries, you can make every entry a fixed height and width, with a scroll bar per entry.

An important variable for this is maxLength, which is a number of characters. If an entry exceeds this number of characters, the auto resizing kicks in, and locks it to a specific height, and adds a scrollbar. FYI: the average word length is 6, so 6 * n is roughly n words. Also, remember that images are only a small amount of text (<img src="url" height="x" width="y" alt="some text">), so an image-only post probably won't start scrolling.

You may need to tweak things slightly (or use stylesheet classes) to get it exactly right.

Enjoy.

What's the theme ID of this community's theme?

You've implemented so many of the neat customization tricks that the members have come up with that I think its source would make an excellent resource to look back on.
