colorized tutorials

I recommend adding to the style classes for creating colorized tutorials. Using masterslacker's color scheme, that would be:

black - code that doesn't need to be changed to make the enhancement work

green - very important comments explaining the operation of code, and further customisation that you can make. It explains code that is in the following three colours

red - either a variable value to change to customise your look, or code that you can play with to affect layout of items

blue - active lines that can be removed to remove functionality

pink - inactive lines that can be decommented to enable functionality

So, something like:
   color: #009900;

.variable {
   color: #993300;

.active {
   color: #333399;

   color: #CC33CC;

so then when creating a tutorial, users dont have to insert the colors themselves, just the class.

<span class="codeinactive">like so</span>

what do you think?

Edit: updated class names so they're easier to remember

My Instant Messenger Contacts

I have just made all my IM contacts from my Info Page viewable to everybody instead of just to people on my friends list. I'm not going to post them directly here because this journal is googleable, and I've blocked robots/spiders from my journal pages. I have AIM, ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo. If you'd like to add me, please feel more than welcome, and I'll add you back. I'm on a fair bit, and always willing to give some help, or just plain chat if you're bored :)

(no subject)

this doesn't have to do with anything related to the community but... heck, don't grill me for this.

i'm disabling my default friend's page so others won't be able to view them but i want to view them for myself. what is another alternative to view my friend's page? i know it's a filter but i don't know the url. lj changed so much..

I need some help... I figured out how to make my journal have 3 columns — one with components, then my entries, then more components. (I'll post a tutorial once I get it working completely right. The problem I'm having is that if I set it to show my userpics with each entry, it stretches my journal so I have to scroll horizontally just a bit to see the whole thing...

...Here is my layer...

Could anyone look through that and see if you can figure out why it'd be doing that? I'm sure there's just something small I need to tweak to make it work, but I just can't find it...

editted to add... Apparently it's gotta be something in the "page layout" part... cuz I took out all the other customizations and it still wasn't right... It's right on the friends and calendar pages, and even the reply/comments pages... just not on the recent entries page... I have no clue why though. :p zhymmy figured out how to fix it by putting the userpic inside the same box as the entry text and have the text wrap around the pic, or you can adjust it so there's no text wrap... The only problem with that is, if you're using the 'scrolling entries' tutorial, the text still wraps when you scroll down. I dunno why. Also, the pics will scroll with the rest of the entry. :p I think I'm about ready to give up on getting it to work with showing the userpics, unless anyone else can figure out what's wrong.

A search component for LiveJournal's new "Search This Journal" feature

     This code creates a search box which clones LiveJournal's new "Search This Journal" feature, except that I used a drop-down box to determine "sort by", so that it would take up less space.

     You might need to add your journal to Feedster [here] before your journal is indexed. I'm not sure. As it is, searching when your journal hasn't been indexed results in you searching all of LiveJournal. That might be a feature or Feedster might simply have not gotten around to indexing everyone's journal yet. Once you add your LiveJournal to Feedster it takes 4 or 6 hours to be indexed. (I'm still waiting for mine to index)
