Tweaking the user layer

Hi, all. :)

With the help of some members of this community (special thanks to the ever-helpful masterslacker), I was able to customize my LJ and get it looking exactly the way I wanted it. That was a few months ago, and I thought I'd try something new now by adding a header and reducing page width.

All of my customizations were in a theme layer, but a good friend kindly gave me a code for changing the width and adding a header that was supposed to go in the user layer. So without touching the theme layer with the customizations and such, I edited the main/default user layer with stylesheet items.

The header did appear, and the page width changed, but the borders on the userpics (which I had successfully taken away via my own customizations) reappeared, and the titles on the components moved back to be left-aligned instead of centered as I'd wanted. So I was wondering if someone might be able to help me move them to the center again. Additionally, I would like the journal to be closer to the header, instead of it having a large gap as you will see if you pay my journal a visit. I looked at the code I'd added to the user layer and do not see where I should be able to edit in such changes.

Thank you very much! I'd appreciate any help you might be able to give me to that end.

replacing images

I have sucessfully managed to replace the majority of the buttons in my journal but I was wondering if there was someway I can universally replace the default user, community and protection (f/o, private) icons so that the whole button scheme matches.
