Alright, I just got a paid account and I'm happy with simplicity, for now.
Right now, I just want to add a header at the top of my lj. I've read through the tutorials and tried to muddle through but nothing happens when I think I'm doing it right. But this may be caused by me not knowing where to put the the codes. I am not so much interested in the why it works part, I just wanna know what the code is and where to put it...please?

Have I used conflicting code in the same layer?

I succeed in added vertical space at the top of the page above my side-component and above my entries with a slight variation on the code referenced in THIS question that I asked here in early Feb, basically by defining a vertical space size with
function Page::print_custom_head()
and then adding a
 """<div class="verticalSpacer"></div>""";
line into both
 function print_my_entries(Page p, string title) {
 function print_profile(Page p) {
So far so good...

As another (final) "tweak" tonight I attempted to introduce some custom-sized horizontal spacing between the side component and the journal entries, and at the page sides with the code from THIS previous entry into this community.

The good part... the Horiz-Space code introduced the horizontal spacing, as advertised. (yeah!)

The bad part... it removed (as in it just disappeared) the top navigation bar (instead of using the navigation component, I prefer to turn that option off and have the navigation links in the bar across the top). It also removed the vertical space at the top I had previously worked to introduce; the components were instead aligned flush with the very top of the page.

Right now my journal, for comparison, is back as it was before I applied this horiz-space adding code (with Nav bar and a vertical spacing at the top).

Why did this horiz-spacing code obliterate my "standard" top Nav bar?
Why did it remove the page-top spaces that I added in this same layer?
Is there any simple modification to this code where I can keep the top Nav bar and top-space, and also have horizontal space (preferably with this simple code)

thanks in advance for taking the time to read all this... any insight or help will be greatly appreciated. (-:

Newbie's Page

There was some discussion earlier on how to make this journal a little less...cluttered with common questions. I helpfully suggested a newbie's page, kunzite1 helpfully suggested that I write one ;-) Here's the result. If there is anything that you think should be added/deleted/changed etc., feel free to comment and beat me over the head with my mistake :-D

delete entry/comment

I'd like to add a delete entry/comment icon to the bottom of the entry or comment display. for those items I can delete. I already have the edit and add memory icons. Do you know what key to call get_link with to get the delete icon and url?

Thanks for any help

Former member seeking help again.

This is going to sound utterly idiotic, but I was a member here over this past summer. I had requested to learn how to center and shrink my journal entries and components. It was answered in this tutorial.

A few months ago I abandoned Component, but now I'm back... and I can't get my journal to be centered anymore! My old layer isn't there anymore. I've tried copying and pasting from that tutorial and it does nothing. No errors, but still no change to my journal.

(no subject)

Yes, I have a question, and I know it's in the tutorials [I've already read the one too]... about a graphic above entries. I want a header for my community femininedecay, and when I pasted the code, I didn't get an error, but it didn't work and nothing showed up at all! :/
I'm confused.... it's a foreigh language to me. If anyone can help tell me how to get it to actually work I would appreciate it.
