White tips on the LJ Search box?

In my LJ I have posted the LJ Search code and it is showing up fine, however there are white tips on the corners of the search box? How do I get rid of these? My layer number is 4477030. I can't post my code because it's too long and would get truncated. Thanks.

different widths

so. i've just started using s2 and i can't find what i did wrong.
my layer is: http://www.livejournal.com/customize/advanced/layersource.bml?id=5898253

what happens is that (on firefox at least) the width of my friends and recent pages are different. i'm using the shrinking & centering tutorial, but apparently i messed it up in some way.

also, my navigation bar is a bit wider than the rest of the page. i have the feeling that's way more simple to solve though.

sorry if this has been asked many times before, i looked through the tutorials and didn't find anything.

Okay, I'm wanting to do a few things:

1/Scrolling entries
2/Spiffy date format

Clearly, I found the tutorials I need... the problem I have is that I don't really know what to do with them. Where S2 is concerned, I'm good on the basics like extra components, but after that, my brain just melts.
If anybody can help me figure out what I need to do with the given codes and where in my layer to put them, it'd be great. This is what I specifically want to do;
* put entries into a box so entries scroll when they get to a certain length, the way they do in the component_help community.
* make my dates the same kind of style as wolfgrrl's, with two differences: embolden time, and remove bold from month, date and year.

Also, what does the Customise entries tutorial do to my journal specifically?
