horizontal scrollbars

after the second time in a week having my friends view screwed up by too large of a picture or a string of words with no spaces I've decided that I need horizontal scrollbars on my friends entry page. I looked and found the tutorial for the vertical scrollbars. but er... well not being a genius or anything I'm not sure how to use it for width instead.

Anyone willing to help?
