Previous/Next Navigational Component

I am working on getting rid of the navigational component all together on my journal, but will need to keep the Previous/Next portion to skip around. Is there an easy way to put those nav comps in without having the standard nav components?

Also, is there a way to display the mini-cal without turning it on from the basic customization page? I'd like to place it manually.
