customizing links

i was wondering if i would be able to use an override from system 1... the glowing link override which can be found here ( http://www.livejournal.com/users/howto/17384.html ) in the system 2 component livejournal for my links. ive tried various things, but is there a specific way to do this at all possible? any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!
