Nav bar help!

Hey everyone, I did a search in the comm but perhaps I missed the post that would have given me an answer to my question. I wanted to know if there was a way to change the text in the nav bar? Like I wanted "recent", "friends", "archive", "userinfo" so say other things. I tried changing it in my layer too just by replacing that text between the quotation marks that assigns those names to the links but nothing happened.
